Geoff Rashe, Luthier

Geoff Rashe understood the union of art and science from a very young age. First as a student of Applied Mathematics at the University of California, San Diego, he made the transition to the design and construction of surfboards, while obtaining a degree in General Literature. Surfing and the study of the Spanish language led him to live in Spain in 1990, starting a lifelong loving relationship with Spanish art, music and, above all, the flamenco guitar. When he built his first guitar, he felt that he had found his true vocation. Due to the impossibility of finding guitar masters who would teach him the secrets and methods of construction in California, he began a relentless and obsessive search for guitars built by the best flamenco guitar artisans in history. Over time he collected excellent pieces from the work of Manuel Ramírez, Santos Hernández, Domingo Esteso, the Conde Brothers, Gerundino Fernández, Manuel Reyes and Marcelo Barbero. He studied down to the smallest detail of these instruments to the point of being able to consider these great artisans his teachers. Geoff Rashe currently resides in his hometown of Santa Cruz, California.
